Basil Doc's Pizza came to Colorado by way of Pepe's Pizza in New Haven, Connecticut (on the outskirts of the Yale campus). The original Basil Doc's Pizza was opened in the Washington Park neighborhood in 1996. In July of 2000 a second Basil Doc's was opened in the Crestmoor area of Denver which has brought "THE BEST PIZZAS IN TOWN..." (2001 Zagat.com survey) to that neighborhood. In 2004 three additional neighborhood locations were opened.
So you ask what makes Basil Doc's Pizza "DENVER'S BEST PIZZA" (Bill St. John, KCNC News and 5280 Magazine). Each of the Neapolitan-style pizzas starts with a wonderfully flavored, perfectly flaky crust then adds chunky tomato sauce and tops the pizzas with almost any ingredient imaginable. The house salad is also on the not to be missed list when you ordera Basil Doc's pizza; every house salad is served with a side of the "DON'T MISS THIS ONE" (Gabby Gourmet) balsamic vinaigrette dressing.
Every Basil Doc's pizza is a work of art; hand-pounded dough, chunky tomato sauce, low fat mozzarella cheese and a list of toppings that will satisfy almost anyone's desires. Basil Doc's has created a loyal following with its "unique" crust ("a perfect compromise between thick and thin") and "delicious" toppings, resulting in masterpieces that "look like Van Gogh Paintings" (2002 Zagat survey top restaurant guide).
With all of this said, the next time you are craving a pie that is the "tastiest, made to order, fantastic, east-coast style with crispy crusts" enjoy a Basil Doc's Pizza. Homegrown in Colorado!!
